Got Mice? Try Some of These Tips to Get Rid of Them

Mice are a common household pest, in fact, mice are one of the few species that thrive living in close proximity to humans. Where there are humans, you can be certain that there will be mice near by. Mice may look cute, but they are anything but cute when you see the damage and danger they cause. Most of the complaints that I hear associated to mice are

  • The mice are raiding your kitchen pantry
  • The mice are living in your attic and/or walls
  • The mice are chewing on your electrical wiring or gnawing through walls
  • The mice are making a lot of noise by scratching and running all over the place
  • The mice are dying in places that you cannot reach them and causing an awful stench

Sound familiar? These are really common problems that are associated with an infestation of mice. Now that you know what signs to look for and you have determined that you indeed have a mice problem, what do you do now? Your first reaction may be to call an exterminator, but you should never do that as exterminators mainly deal with insects and they will try to use poison to get rid of the mice, which actually make the problem worse. However, you should consider calling a professional pest removal service that specifically deals with rodents. Not only will a professional service have the equipment needed to deal with your problem, they will also have the knowledge necessary to take care of your problem as cheaply and effectively as possible.

However, there are some things that you can try on your own first. For example, you can try to trap the mice if the population is small. Another option that is available to you is to take away all the food that is within reach of a mouse. You can do this by keeping your house very neat, putting dry goods into steel or ceramic containers instead of bags and boxes. However, neither trapping nor taking away their food will guarantee that you can rid yourself of the mice.

A word of caution here: NEVER use poison on mice. Poison is a popular method to get rid of mice, but it is the least effective and causes more harm and damage than good. Not to mention that if it does kill the mice they will probably die in a place that you cannot reach them which will create a stench like you have never smelled before.

When in doubt you should always call a professional. Professionals not only can rid you of the infestation, but they can also fix the entry points to make sure the mice do not come back.
